Good Bye, Gary

It's never too late to to accept change. The only constant in life is change. In nature, in society, in relationships, at work, things change. And they change constantly. See it as the larger picture, as normal. Don't fight it. Adapt to it.

So, today we will try and embrace change. Often we don't like the process of change, but like it or loath it, we better expect it. Change will come.

After nearly six years as the driver for Legacy Five, Gary Buckner has left to pursue an opportunity to drive for a coach leasing company out of Nashville.

Gary drove faithfully for us and logged several hundred thousand miles with Legacy Five. We love Gary and will miss him, but we wish nothing for him but the best.

We must also take this opportunity to thank Gary's wife, Sharon. Sharon kept a lot of the driving records, logs and paperwork and once a quarter would file that mountain of information with the various state agencies in order to comply with state and federal regulations. Sharon was a tireless worker and we don't even know the extent of work she did on our behalf.

Thank you Gary and Sharon. We love you and will miss you.

Our bus drivers become an extended part of the Legacy Five family. Please join us in prayer that God will send the next family member along soon. Driving the bus is no small task and we need just the right person. So, please pray and we will trust God to send just the right person our way.

treyTrey Ivey to join Legacy Five.

Legacy Five is pleased to announce that 21 year old Trey Ivey will be joining Legacy Five as their new pianist.  Trey is from Cleveland, Georgia but will soon make Nashville, Tennessee his new home.

Trey played the piano for The Mike Lefevre Quartet from November 2006 until March 2010 and most recently was the pianist for The Old Paths.  Scott Fowler of Legacy Five states, "I first heard Trey a couple of years ago at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.  I remember thinking then that this young man was a great player and I made a mental note to myself to keep an eye on him.  When Tim Parton announced he would be leaving, I contacted Trey and arranged for an audition...the rest as they say, is history.  All of the Legacy Five guys are excited to have Trey a
part of our team."

Trey states, "I am so thankful that God allows me to do what I love to do. I am very excited about joining Legacy Five and look forward to seeing what the future holds. It is a real honor to follow in the footsteps of two of my heroes, Roger Bennett and Tim Parton.

Trey will begin Traveling with Legacy Five on February 12, but will not officially assume the role of pianist until Tim's departure on February 28.

tim resignsTim Parton to leave Legacy Five.

After serving as Legacy Five’s pianist for 5 years, Tim Parton is getting off the road and has accepted a position at 3ABN (3 Angels Broadcasting Network) in West Frankfurt, Illinois. Tim’s new role at 3 ABN has already begun, but Tim has committed to “juggle his schedule” and remain with Legacy Five until his replacement can be found.  Scott Fowler of Legacy Five states, “Scott, Glenn, Gus and I will certainly miss Tim.  His professional contribution to Legacy Five has been extraordinary, but mostly we will miss him personally. Tim is one of my favorite people and I wish him and his family all the best.”

Tim Parton officially joined Legacy Five as their permanent full time pianist in March of 2007 following the death of Legacy Five co-founder and pianist, Roger Bennett.  Tim filled in for Legacy Five for about a year prior to that when Roger could not travel due to his illness.

Bailey Born Again!

Well, when I got off the bus Sunday around 11:30 AM, My wife and two boys met me at the front door. Taryn said, “Bailey…you wanna tell Daddy what happened today at Church?”  Bailey looked up into my eyes and as they became moist with sweet little baby tears, he said, “I am a Christian….I asked Jesus into my heart today.” Man….I fell hard to my knees and grabbed him and hugged him and bragged on him….and almost suffocated him.  All day he kept mentioning that he was a “good Christian”.  I asked him why he was so happy today, to which he replied “because I’m a Christian.”  So…we all rejoiced with the angels in Heaven.  Sunday we had his spiritual party and tonight (Wednesday) we had Bailey’s 5 physical birthday party.  It’s been a good week for celebrations in the Fowler’s home.

Monday morning, Bailey had an appointment with his pediatrician.  After she examined him she asked him “So what the best thing you did all summer?  Bailey replied, “I became a Christian!” Oh the newborn Feeling! The zeal…the tender heart…the kind words.  It’s a marvelous thing to watch and experience.   Phase one of our parenthood is done.  Phase two begins now.

I think each phase gets more challenging and I know God prepares the parents and the children alike.  Lord….let us learn.   Help us not to mess up what you are trying to do in and thru us with regard to our children.

Please pray for the Fowler's, Parton’s, Dustin’s, Gaches’ and the Howard’s, that God will equip us to be the parents we need to be to our precious children who are loaned to us by the Creator of all.

Freedom SingersMust see video - Freedom Singers

These three young men, Simon, Wesley and Steven fled Romania when they were only teenagers, in search of religious freedom. Simon and Wesley were locked and sealed in a container and placed aboard a container vessel where they spent two weeks in total darkness as they journeyed to a destination unknown. They ran out of food, water, air and hope. Just when despair filled that container and death was all but certain, God provided another of many miracles in this incredible real life story of faith and perseverance.

Listen as Simon and Wesley share their testimony of God's miraculous deliverance from communism to freedom!

american sonFranklin, TN Artist Paints Water Color of Preston Fowler…

Some time ago, I met a local (Franklin, Tennessee) artist named Randy Elrod.  Randy Elrod is described by his friends as a Renaissance man. A dreamer, artist, writer, speaker and mentor. I’m not sure what all that means, but I do know this: the dude is a gifted artist. Last week, Randy presented me with a fabulous watercolor of my son Preston looking at the American Flag. His painting was inspired by a photo I took of Preston four years ago when he was helping display a flag on the side of our house. Randy has named his latest piece of art “American Son” and I wanted you all to see it.

I love it for so many reasons. Number one, it is one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken of Preston. I just love the way his eyes are looking at that flag. That was no doubt one of those quick expressions that was gone in less than a second. But that flag had his attention for a beautiful moment in time. Notice the reflection of the flag in Preston’s eyes.

But I love it for another reason. It serves as a constant reminder that Preston and his brother Bailey were born in America where they are free. Free to pursue happiness. Free to dream. Free to roam from sea to shining sea. Free to worship. FREE. I love America and I thank God that he has blessed this land.

My father-law, Ken Davis sums the flag up this way:

If we forget the price of freedom we will loose it.
If we forget our history we will forfeit our future.

The flag reminds us of the history and cost of the freedoms we enjoy today. We must be sure that this young generation can still SEE the significance of the flag and know its rich history. That knowledge will help guarantee that long after we are gone, old glory will still have a land of the free and home of the brave over which it can wave.

Oh, say can you see?

Legacy Five Foundation The Legacy Five Foundation Established!

On March 25, 2010, Scott Fowler received notice from the IRS of the tax-exempt status for the newly formed Legacy Five Foundation. Fowler explains, "We continually meet people who are not necessarily in a position to commit to a long term monthly sponsorship of a child, but they want to send in a donation from time to time. That is exactly what the Legacy Five Foundation can facilitate." In response to the Great Commission, the Legacy Five Foundation exists as an advocate for children, to release them from ...... read more

  New T-Shirt!

Celebrate Your Patriotism!

On February 7, 1954, Dr. George MacPherson Docherty, pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington D.C., delivered a sermon based on the Gettysburg Address titled "A New Birth of Freedom." He argued that the nation's might lay not in arms but its spirit and higher purpose. He noted that the sentiment's of the Pledge of Alegiance could be those of any nation, that "there was something missing in the pledge, and that which was missing was the characteristic and definitive factor in the American way of life." He cited Lincoln's words "under God" as defining words that set the United States apart from other nations.

It's amazing that only 56 years ago our leaders felt strongly enough to add those two words to our nation's pledge of allegiance.

You can show that you support that decision by ordering this great new t-shirt and cap available now from the Legacy Five e-store

New Tenor for L5 Legacy Five welcomes new tenor, Gus Gaches!

Hailing from Santa Rosa, California, Gus and his family moved to Nashville in 1991 for his job. When Tim Parton asked Gus who he had traveled with professionally, he replied, “It started with my wife and sister in a group called Stedfast. After that I spent five years with a Nashville based group called Calvary Construction Company. When I left there I was privileged to be asked by Terry Blackwood to sing with him, Joe Moscheo, and Sherman Andrus in The Imperials. I was with them for almost four years. It was during this time that I was asked to join the Lefevre Quartet. I had a great time singing with them for 3 years and now I am honored to be joining Legacy 5.” Gus is well known and respected in Nashville for his studio work both as an engineer and a studio singer.

Legacy Five is blessed to have so many friends who care about us and pray regularly for our families. So we asked Gus to introduce them to you: “I have a beautiful wife who I have been married to for 20 years. Her name is Tamra. I am blessed with the two greatest kids on the face of the earth, my son Gus, and my beautiful daughter Kylie. She is 12 going on 30! Our other family member in the house is our dog Chewy. He just turned 2.”

Gus is an avid hockey fan with loyalty to the Nashville Predators. “Love the Preds!,” he says. Just what we needed on the bus – another sports nut!
